Trading Club @ IIFT
|
Objectives:
All activities of the club are aimed at equipping
members not only with an idea of the mechanisms of trading, but also
with an appreciation of the finer nuances of trading.
Activities:
Club
Meetings:
Meetings
are held
for students' discussions on various Trade related topics. These
forums ensure that the students get a real time glimpse of events
unfolding around. The “Knowledge Management Series” is a platform
which ensures that students get exposed to newer avenues in trade and
trade related sectors. Meetings are often marked with surprise games
or quizzes ensuring that the learning experience is real fun.
Simulation Trading:
Simulation games of varying difficulty are organised to ensure that
the students are prepared to face real life Bulls and Bears
situations. Derivatives are also thrown open for the grabs in these
games to make these traders stretch their calculations to the limit.
The players are exposed to different variants in terms of stocks,
commodities and forex ensuring that they get a feel of different
environments.
Students’ Commodities Mutual Fund:
To generate REAL interest, we need to put in REAL money. The club has
been successfully running the commodities mutual fund, thereby being
able to implement the experiences of in-house games in live trading.
The decisions of when and where to invest are collectively taken by
the members, thus ensuring that the members start understanding the
commodities markets better.
Visiting trade related hubs:
If
you want to learn to trade, it just cannot be done sitting in a
classroom. Get down to the markets and experience the live action
there. The club organises visits to Tea- auction sites, the local port
and other local Mandis to give that pulse of real mandi trading. These
visits have really helped the members in terms of understanding those
little yet important tricks of the trade which can be learnt only in
the markets.
Workshops:
The learning is not complete unless we hear out the experts. Eminent
speakers from the industry are invited to speak on current topics thus
giving us the industry perspective on the issues. It is also a chance
for the students to interact with these dignitaries and get necessary
inputs to pursue related interests. Workshops, thus ensure a strong
relationship with the industry enabling to interact with industry
leaders directly.
